M7 Surface Mount Rectifier Diode – Electrical Characteristics and Replacement Strategy

Component Overview

The M7 rectifier diode is designed for general-purpose surface mount rectification where higher reverse voltage capability is required within the same current class. It provides an extended voltage range compared with M1–M6 devices, enabling a single device platform for multiple blocking voltage requirements.

Electrical Characteristics

  • Maximum repetitive peak reverse voltage: 50 V to 1000 V
  • Maximum DC blocking voltage: 50 V to 1000 V
  • Average forward rectified current: 1.0 A
  • Low reverse leakage current
  • High forward surge current capability

Package and Assembly

  • Package type: DO214AC (SMA)
  • UL 94V-0 flammability classification
  • Suitable for automated surface mount placement
  • Built-in strain relief structure
  • High temperature soldering: 250°C / 10 seconds at terminals

Replacement Considerations

Due to the wider reverse voltage range, the M7 can be used to replace M1 through M6 rectifiers in designs where the forward current rating remains at 1.0 A and the package outline is compatible. Consolidating to a single voltage class can simplify BOM management and reduce component qualification effort.

Applications

  • General-purpose rectification
  • Power supplies
  • Consumer electronics
  • Industrial control circuits

Design Considerations

  • Verify thermal performance under continuous forward current operation
  • Ensure surge current rating meets inrush conditions
  • Confirm reverse voltage margin based on peak line conditions
  • Evaluate leakage current impact in low-power standby circuits
