Technical Advisory: Final Discontinuation of TS06 Series and Recommended Migration Path

Managing Product Lifecycle (EOL) for Polypropylene Film Capacitors

As part of Suntan’s commitment to optimizing our manufacturing efficiency and advancing our passive component technologies, we are announcing the final End-of-Life (EOL) for the TS06 series (Polypropylene Film Capacitor – PPI). While limited support was maintained for legacy designs following the initial 2011 announcement, all production and technical support for the TS06 series will now entirely cease. For engineers and procurement managers, identifying a compatible cross-reference is essential to ensure continued production without PCBA redesign delays.

Recommended Technical Replacements: TS07 and TS01 Series

To mitigate supply chain disruptions, we recommend transitioning to the following series based on your specific circuit requirements. Choosing the correct dielectric material is critical for maintaining signal integrity and thermal stability.

  • TS07 Series (Polypropylene Film Capacitor – PPI): The direct technical successor for applications requiring the specific low-loss characteristics of Polypropylene. It offers excellent frequency response and high insulation resistance.

  • TS01 Series (Mylar / Polyester Film Capacitor): A high-performance alternative for general-purpose applications where volumetric efficiency and cost-effectiveness are prioritized over ultra-low dissipation factors.

Design Considerations for Component Migration

When replacing the TS06 series in existing schematic designs, hardware engineers should evaluate the following parameters to ensure 100% compatibility:

  • Dielectric Constant: Ensure that the transition from Polypropylene (TS06/TS07) to Polyester (TS01) accounts for differences in temperature coefficient and dissipation factor (tan δ).
  • Lead Pitch & Dimensions: Verify that the form factor and lead spacing of the TS07 or TS01 match the existing PCB layout to avoid mechanical interference.
  • Voltage Derating: Review the rated voltage (VR) against the actual operating voltage, especially in high-pulse or AC applications, to maintain the required MTBF.
  • Operating Temperature: Confirm that the replacement capacitor’s thermal profile aligns with the end-device’s environmental specifications.

Typical Applications

The TS07 and TS01 series are optimized for a wide range of industrial and consumer electronics, including:

  • Timing and Oscillating Circuits: Leveraging the stability of film dielectrics.
  • Coupling and Decoupling: Removing DC bias and filtering noise in audio and signal processing.
  • Bypass Circuits: Providing low-impedance paths for high-frequency interference.
  • Power Supply Units (PSU): Snubber and smoothing functions in low-power converters.

Technical Support and Sourcing

Suntan’s engineering team is available to assist with BOM (Bill of Materials) scrubbing and technical verification for your migration from the TS06 series. We recommend securing samples for the TS07 or TS01 series to validate performance in your specific application.
